Campaign Platform:
- Goal 1 is to develop an overall Tribal Government
strategic plan to reduce tribal debt, plan for economic development to
include a land use plan for corridor and zoning areas, as well as
commercial development and future residential areas.
- Goal 2 is to develop an overall economic development plan
that identifies existing tribal resources, plan for avenues for small
businesses and to explore tourisms but at the same time safeguarding Zuni
cultural values as well as re-examining the role of the taxation &
revenue office, along with the role of BIA.
- Goal 3 is to develop a strategic plan to reduce the tribal
debt by looking at tribal program managers and department head for creativity
in finding ways to cost share and cut costs to save tribal monies but
still continue program services.
- Goal 4 is to re-establish “Government to Government”
relation with the state, federal, city of Gallup and other Native American
governments in order to advocate for more state and federal funding and to
advance Zuni initiatives such as gaming revenues from the Arizona partnership.
- Goal 5 is to re-examine the role of the Tribal Court
system by exploring needs such as a Public Defender program, establishing
a law library, a system for case law and to establish an internship
program for those Zuni individuals who want to pursuer a career in
American Indian law and Tribal legal work.
- Goal 6 is for more Zuni community involvement to occur
especially with community issues and for parents to be more pro-active in
their children’s education at all levels so that Zuni students at middle
and high school levels are more serious learners for their future
investment in their job prospects, as well as addressing the cycle of Post
Traumatic Stress Disorder/Syndrome which effects every aspect of our lives
in this community. Involvement of Zuni voters to seriously think about
and answer the following questions: “How do we maintain Zuni identity and
how do we balance tourism development in the 21st century while
safeguarding cultural/religious values
